You're not Alone This Time

"Carter, I'm trying to be nice," Dr. Delessio said gently. "The least you can do is stop being so uncooperative."

Carter just sighed and looked away.

"When you're ready to cooperate, just push the button," Dr. Delessio pointed to the nurse call button and turned to leave.

Carter just turned over on his side, as he closed his eyes.

Dr. Delessio sighed as she left his room. "This was gonna be a long shift.

Carter tried to fall asleep again but his thoat started to hurt worse.

Dr. Delessio sat in the triage office, waiting for either a new patient, or Carter to buzz for her.

Carter frowned as he finally decided to press the call butten.

Samantha got up when she saw the light on the screen come on for Carter's room. "You need something?" Dr. Delessio asked.

"My thoat is killing me." answered Carter.

Samantha nodded and put on gloves before going to look for her light and a tongue depressor. "Well then let's take a look then shall we?" Dr. Delessio asked.

Carter gave a brief nod before he opened his mouth.

"That's it," Samantha smiled warmly. "Just relax," she said as she examined him. Just as she'd expected Carter's tonsils were acutely inflamed. She was surprised that with his condition he hadn't had them removed quite yet. "Okay Carter," Dr. Delessio said, discarding the tongue depressor. "We have two options here, one I can drain the fluid from them to give you some temporary relief, or I can schedule for you to have them removed. "but I'll warn you, draining them can be incredibly painful."

Carter shrugged he really didn't care which they did.

"You have to make this choice Carter," Dr. Delessio said. "I can't make it for you."

"I don't care." Carter snapped at her.

"Alright, fine," Dr. Delessio said, lowering the head of Carter's bed so he was lying down. She grabbed the restraints she'd threatened to use on him earlier and strapped him down so he couldn't move while she drained them. Then she walked over to the supply cabinet to prep the syringe.

Carter growled softly as she this and shot her a dirty look when she to the cabinet.

"You made your choice Carter," Dr. Delessio said, fastening the needle to the syringe.

Carter cursed softly when he saw the needle.

Samantha walked over to him. She really didn't want to do this, but Carter had given her no other choice. "Alright Carter," Dr. Delessio said. "Open wide."

"Hell no." said Carter angrily "There's no way the hell i am doing that."

"You made your choice Carter," Dr. Delessio spoke firmly. "Now open up, or I can pry your mouth open myself."

Carter shot her a dirty look as he finally opened his mouth.

Samantha still really didn't want to do this. She knew all too well how painful this was as the began to insert the needle down into one of the overly inflamed tonsils. Most patients she had seen go through this were screaming in pain by the end over it. She sighed and pulled back the end of th syringe to start draining the fluid.
